4. New Murakami novel is coming .
That is the new Haruki Murakami book , which Amazon sent me a day early. It is (dark) fun, but not deep and not top drawer Murakami. Most of his fans will like it enough to be glad they bought it.
1. Murakami I now have finished it, don’t think it adds up to anything but it is consistently fun for 900+ pages. How many other books can claim that?
3. Haruki Murakami, IQ84 . I haven’t finished it yet, but I feel confident putting it on the list (I’m about one-third through). I even agree with many of the reservations expressed in this review but the book is nonetheless a major achievement. There are dozens of reviews here .
That's the new Haruki Murakami book , due out in the U.S. in late October. It's over one thousand pages and it was published originally in three parts. My view of Murakami is that his later works are good but not special, and that his masterpieces are the early novels and also his non-fiction chronicle of the Tokyo gas attacks, Underground . My favorite is Hard Boiled Wonderland the End of the World , which also should appeal to science fiction fans.
5. Underground: The Tokyo Gas Attack and the Japanese Psyche , by Haruki Murakami. This remains one of the classic studies of collective action, although it is hardly ever recognized as such.

5. Haruki Murakami. My favorite is Hard-Boiled Wonderland (one of my favorite books period) and then Underground , a modern classic of social science (really). I like most of them but I feel he is repeating himself as of late.
