The Cyberiad: Fables for the Cybernetic Age (Penguin Modern Classics)
What film or literature is useful for making sense of the AI moment? (2024-05-29)

That is a reader query, I take it there is no point in my trotting through the obvious picks, starting with I, Robot and Her .  Sophisticates will ponder Stanislaw Lem’s Cyberiad , which very well understood the quirky and semi-religious potential in LLMs, even though he was writing in Communist Poland a very long time ago (those people loved to talk about cybernetics).

Invincible
What I’ve been reading (2022-03-08)

3. Stanislaw Lem, The Invincible .  One of the better Lems, reminds me of a Star Trek episode, with shades of gray goo hypotheses and an East Bloc ending.

Solaris
My favorite things Poland (2018-02-09)

1. Novel : Stanislaw Lem, Solaris , all about identity and erotic guilt.  Next in line would be any number of Isaac Singer novels, I don’t have a favorite offhand.  Soon I will try The Family Moskat .  Gombrowicz is probably wonderful, but I don’t find that it works for me in translation. Quo Vadis left me cold.
